Motor vehicle body repairers repair and restore damaged motor vehicle body parts and interior finishing; repaint body surfaces; and repair and/or replace automotive glass. They are employed by automobile dealerships, automobile body repair shops and automobile appraisal centres

Our auto dealership is looking for an Auto Body Technician to join our autobody repair team. In this position, you repair collision, weather, and other damage done to the body of vehicles. While most of your duties revolve around the body itself, our ideal candidate has some experience working with all the systems in a vehicle. We prefer you have an associate degree in automotive technology, but are willing to work with technicians with a vocational certificate and several years of experience. You need good manual dexterity and physical stamina for this job.

Auto Body Technician Duties and Responsibilities

  • Inspect vehicles for damage
  • Repair body to factory or customer specifications
  • Remove and replace damaged parts with power and hand tools
  • Fill cracks and depressions
  • Perform cosmetic repairs

Auto Body Technician Requirements and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED certificate; certificate or associate degree in automotive technology preferred
  • ASE certificate preferred
  • Welding, auto repair, and painting experience
  • Physical stamina

Specific Skills
Hammer out dents, buckles and defects using blocks and hammers; File, grind and sand body surfaces to be repaired; Replace front end components, body components, doors and frame and underbody components; Repair or replace interior components; Review damage report and estimates of repair cost and plan work to be performed; Mask and tape auto body surfaces in preparation for painting; Remove damaged fenders, panels and grills and bolt or weld replacement parts into place; Repair or replace damaged windows, windshields and sunroofs; Inspect repaired vehicles and test drive vehicles for proper handling; Straighten bent frames using frame and underbody pulling and anchoring equipment
